On Sunday, June 12, 2022, the Chevra Shas of the Aur Torah Sephardic Minyan of Staten Island under the dynamic leadership of its illustrious and highly acclaimed Mara Dat’Ra Chacham Aharon Zeev and President Oshri Reuven celebrated a labor of love, the completion of Gemara Shabbat with a gala Siyum held at the Synagogue located in the New Springville section of Staten Island.
“Gemara Shabbat was selected by the Chevra Shas who desired to learn the intricacies of Hilchot Shabbat. The Chevra Shas wanted to experience and appreciate Hashem’s gift and treasure of Shabbat in a meaningful and practical way. They wanted to learn the various Halachot Shabbat and to understand them as they apply to Shabbat. Because of this deep appreciation to learn, study and understand Halacha L’Maseh, the Chevra Shas decided to learn Gemara Shabbat on Shabbat afternoon and thankfully over the course of this past year and a half we were fortunate to have completed and made a Siyum on Gemara Shabbat.
As a Rabbi I am thrilled that my Congregation eagerly as a community engaged in learning Gemara Shabbat with its practical applications and they have a deeper reverence for the Gemara, their heritage and practical Halacha as it plays out in the modern world of technology. This opportunity permitted me to explore Hilchot Shabbat in a deep and profound way dealing with Halacha as it pertains and is applied to our times. I thank the Synagogue family and I respect and appreciate our community’s passion for learning. I look forward to completing the entire Shas and reviewing many times over the entire Talmud with our beloved Chevra Shas.”
The Siyum was sponsored by Mr. Lior Ronan and family as a tribute to the Chevra Shas which is more then a group of men studying Talmud together. “We are a Chevra Shas committed to uplifting ourselves, our families and our community. This is achieved by having our beloved Rav Zeev teach us and learn with us Torah, Talmud, and Halacha. We are fortunate to have Rav Zeev as our Community Rabbi. Rav Zeev is a wonderful Chacham who cares about each and every member of the community. From young to old he is there for all of us all the time.
Rav Zeev has touched us all the most through being our Rabbi and teaching us and engaging us in Torah and Mitzvot. By completing Gemara Shabbat, Rav Zeev has uplifted the entire community from young to old and we are now able to have more meaning in observing and celebrating Shabbat. We cannot thank Rav Zeev enough and we look forward to learning much Torah with him in the years ahead.”
Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, President of the Staten Island Council of Jewish Organizations and Executive Vice-President of the Igud HaRabbonim, Rabbinical Alliance of America remarked, “tonight I had the high honor of attending the Siyum of Gemara Shabbat by the esteemed Chevra Shas of the Aur Torah Sephardic Minyan of Staten Island. Whenever I come to this Synagogue my spirit gets uplifted and I leave with a positive and optimistic feeling.
The first thing you notice at Aur Torah is its sincerity of its Congregants and family. You also see their passion to help the community and feel a love and admiration for Torah and Mitzvot. This special Congregation is fortunate top have at its Spiritual helm a wonderful Rabbinic leader and that is my personal friend Rabbi Aharon Zeev. The moment a person walks into Aur Torah and meets Rabbi Zeev they are attracted to his passion for teaching, learning, and living Torah. The Rabbi is constantly learning and sharing wonderful Torah thoughts with everyone he encounters.
These uplifting words of our heritage gives all who are privileged to listen optimism and a respect for what it means to be Torah observant. Rabbi Zeev, I cannot thank you enough, you to me are a personal inspiration, a confident and a friend. I look forward to continuing to learn from you and gaining from your brilliant, loving, caring and thoughtful Torah insights.”
